Handcrafted Wood-Turned Bowls
About the Artist
Dean Smith (“Deano” among friends) has been an integral part of the local building trades since 1977, honing his craft with wood since the early ’70s. With a rich history of constructing custom homes that have left a trail of delighted customers, (including his wife Lesley), Dean has transitioned seamlessly into retirement, channeling his lifelong passion for wood into breathtakingly unique creations on the lathe.
In his workshop, Dean meticulously transforms locally sourced and California-grown oak, cottonwood, walnut, manzanita, pecan, and eucalyptus into stunning bowls that exude both character and charm. His artistic approach involves allowing the natural grain and contours of the wood to dictate the final form, resulting in pieces that are as individual as they are captivating.
Through careful craftsmanship and an eye for detail, Dean’s bowls undergo a journey of transformation, culminating in a meticulous polishing process that accentuates their inherent beauty and luster. Owning one of Dean’s creations isn’t just acquiring an object; it’s embracing a piece of artistry that promises to bring joy and admiration for years to come.
